Interior Design For Dentistry

In the increasingly complex, competitive and stressful field of dentistry, effectively designed dental offices can offer significant benefits. Esthetic, functional and life- cycle cost issues to be considered when developing your interior design scheme include color, finishes, lighting, furnishings, art and accessories. Practice Implications. An appropriately designed dental office serves as a valuable marketing tool for your practice, as well as a safe and enjoyable work environment. Qualified interior design professionals can help you make design decisions that can yield optimum results within your budget.

It must be emphasized that these elements are most effectively used by an interior design professional, working with you to best achieve your goals. Unlike interior decoration, the practice of interior design requires extensive knowledge of applicable codes and appropriate specifications for finishes, furnishings and lighting. Interior design professionals who have passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification examination (usually identified by the appellation ASID, or American Society of Interior Designers; or IIDA, or International Interior Design Association) are qualified by education, experience and examination to perform these services. It is especially important that your interior design team member have a working knowledge of dental offices and the specific challenges they face.

If color is the paint in the creation of your office vision, interior finishes serve as the canvas. Finishes refer to the carpeting, ceramic tile, vinyl flooring, wallcoverings, paint, plastic laminates, ceiling tiles and fabrics that cover all the surfaces and furnishings of each room. Appropriate finish selections lead to an attractive office that can be easily maintained and is long-lasting. As a general guideline, any finish that is expensive or difficult to change (such as cabinetry, countertops, ceramic tile or carpet) should be fairly neutral.
