An introduction to 3D visualisation using 3ds max & Architectural Desktop
This tutorial is intended to work as a student centered learning resource. It will introduce
you to the basics of creating quality photorealistic still pictures and animations of your
3D CAD models using 3ds max. ...
To benefit from this introduction to 3D visualisation you should be familiar with basic 3D
modelling, ideally using Architectural Desktop (ADT), which is AutoCAD with extra tools
for building & construction project design. Mbr />
In the resultant Import Options window ensure that the Rescale model option is
unticked and that the Combine objects by layer is ticked. This leaves the model units
in meters and makes objects on each AutoCAD layer a separate object in 3ds max.
Make your selection by double clicking the material of your choice. This should bring up
the Material Editor again. To select the object to apply this material to, press the H key
and select the Layer:ground objects.
3ds max allows you to alter how this material is applied to the object. You can change
how many times the material repeats, or tiles, its orientation, how it is projected onto the
object, etc. To do this you have to add a modifier to the object itself.
